Baiju Bawra (1952)

A blockbuster hit, won Meena Kumari her first Filmfare award for Best Actress in 1954.

Parineeta (1953)

Based on Saratchandra Chattopadhyay’s story, featured Shekhar (Ashok Kumar) who is love with his neighbour’s niece Lalita (Meena Kumari).


Meena Kumari and Dilip Kumar play prince and princess of different kingdoms. Known as the Tragedy Queen, she played a comic role here.

Dil Apna aur Preet Parai (1960)

A romance between Meena Kumari’s character, a nurse, and a doctor played by Raaj Kumar. It has the famous song sung by Lata Mangeshkar, 'Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh.'

Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962)

The fim is still remembered for her masterly performance as Chhoti Bahu, the achingly lonely wife of a decadent zamindar (Rehman).

Kaajal (1965)

Meena Kumari won her last Filmfare award for her work in Ram Maheshwari's Kaajal. Once again she played a doomed woman who is misunderstood and mistreated.

Pakeezah (1972)

Meena Kumari gave a magnificent performance in the tale of a courtesan and her forbidden love.
