What is PFI (Popular Front of India)?
National Democratic Front in Kerala, the Karnataka Forum for Dignity, and the Manitha Neethi Pasarai in Tamil Nadu, three Muslim organisations in southern India, were combined to form the PFI in 2007.
Accusations against PFI
PFI has had the most visible presence in Kerala, where it has been repeatedly accused of murder, rioting, intimidation, and having links with terrorist groups.
Centre bans PFI
The Centre banned PFI and several other associated organisations for 5 years.The home ministry said some PFI activists joined the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and took part in terror activities.
Who is the Chairman of PFI?
Previously headquartered in Kozhikode, the organization later shifted its base to Delhi. Its present chairman is OMA Abdul Salam.
