Amidst the growing corona crisis in China and the fears of a fourth wave of corona epidemic in June, today the new cases of corona in India are set to see a slight decline. In the last 24 hours, 1 thousand 259 cases of corona have been reported in the country, while 35 corona infected have died.
The active cases comprise 0.04 per cent of the total infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.75 per cent, it showed. A reduction of 1,705 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.22 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate stood at 0.25 per cent, the ministry said.
Scientists and researchers around the globe have confirmed that the stealth variant of Omicron is now the dominating coronavirus strain. A Reuters report citing WHO data says that the BA.2 variant of Omicron accounts for 86 per cent of the sequenced cases around the globe.
Shanghai, China’s most populous city and the financial hub, today further tightened the phase-1 of the Covid lockdown. As new cases breached the 4,000-mark, Shanghai officials have asked some locals to stay indoors.
