41 people died due to spurious liquor in Gujarat, 14 people were arrested

The death toll due to drinking spurious liquor has risen to 41 in Botad, Gujarat. The police have intensified their grip in this case, so far 14 people have been arrested. This incident of deaths due to spurious liquor has stirred the whole of Gujarat. Regarding the liquor scandal, the police say that alcohol was not made, people drank water mixed with the chemical. The chemical supplier Jayesh has also been arrested by the police.

FIR registered

A police officer attached to the Gujarat State Monitoring Cell said 41 people had died due to the spurious liquor so far. 24 people died in Botad and 9 in Ahmedabad. Earlier on Tuesday, Gujarat Director General of Police Ashish Bhatia told in Gandhinagar that three FIRs have been registered against 14 people under sections 302, 328 and 120-B of IPC and most of them have been taken into custody.

Police investigation has revealed that Jayesh alias Raju had stolen 600 liters of 'methyl alcohol' from a godown in Ahmedabad. Raju used to work as a manager in that warehouse. On July 25, he sold it to one of his relatives, Sanjay, living in Botad, for 40 thousand. Knowing that it was an industrial solvent, Sanjay sold it to drug smugglers from different villages of Botad. These drug smugglers mixed this chemical in water and sold it to the people as country liquor, due to which people died.

AAP attacks BJP over scandal

The Aam Aadmi Party, which has announced to contest the assembly elections in Gujarat, is attacking the BJP over the liquor scandal. The Aam Aadmi Party will gather at the BJP headquarters in Delhi today. On the other hand, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who reached the Katal Gujarat tour, also targeted the BJP fiercely. 

Kejriwal alleged that liquor prohibition is in force in the state, yet illegal liquor is being sold. He alleged that those selling illicit liquor were enjoying political patronage and demanded a probe into the money earned from the sale of liquor. Kejriwal also visited a hospital in Bhavnagar on Tuesday and met people who were sick after consuming spurious liquor.
