Assam Mizoram border tension:
The Assam Mizoram border dispute has suddenly flared up all over again. And with this, five Assam policemen were killed and 60 other policemen were injured in firing between the police of both states on Monday. During this, a war of words broke out between the Chief Ministers of both the states as both blamed each other's police for the violence and sought the intervention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Shri @AmitShah ji….kindly look into the matter.

Amit Shah then spoke separately to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga and asked them to ensure peace along the disputed border and find an agreed solution.

How are you going to justify these violent acts?@dccachar @cacharpolice @DGPAssamPolice pic.twitter.com/J9c20gzMZQ
Assam Chief Minister Sarma on Monday announced on Twitter that six Assam Police personnel were martyred while defending the state's constitutional border in firing by miscreants from Mizoram along the inter-state border in Cachar district. Later the government put the number of policemen martyred at five. At the same time, a senior official of Assam Police said that Cachar Superintendent of Police, Nimbalkar Vaibhav, is also among the policemen injured in the firing and stone-pelting.
Dear Himantaji, after cordial meeting of CMs by Hon’ble Shri @amitshah ji, surprisingly 2 companies of Assam Police with civilians lathicharged & tear gassed civilians at Vairengte Auto Rickshaw stand inside Mizoram today. They even overrun CRPF personnel /Mizoram Police. https://t.co/SrAdH7f7rv

In the evening, Amit Shah spoke separately to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on the request of the intervention of the Chief Ministers of both the states. The Union Home Minister requested him to ensure peace along the disputed border and find a mutually agreed solution. The two chief ministers assured Shah that necessary steps would be taken to ensure peace and resolve the border issue amicably. Soon after, Mizoram Home Minister Lalchamliana issued a statement saying that following Shah's intervention, the Assam Police has been recalled and the duty post has been handed over to the CRPF personnel.
It must be noted that the border dispute between the two neighboring states is old. Many talks have taken place since 1995 to end the border dispute between the two states but to no avail. Three districts of Mizoram, Aizawl, Kolasib, and Mamit and three districts of Assam, Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi are adjacent to each other. These districts of both the states share a border of about 164.6 km with each other. The current controversy has come to the fore at a time when Amit Shah recently visited the Northeast.
