Publish Date: 25 Oct, 2022 |

A massive fire has broken out in a market in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. 700 shops have been gutted due to the fire. Fire Brigades reached the spot and brought the fire under control after hours of effort. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained. However, the loss is being assessed in crores of rupees.

SP gives statement

Superintendent of Police (Capital) Jimmy Chiram said the cause of the fire would be known only after the investigation by the fire department. The shopkeepers alleged that when they got information about the fire, they reached the nearby fire station but no personnel were present there.

He claimed that when the firefighters arrived, there was no water in the extinguishing vehicle. The shopkeepers alleged that the fire brigade personnel had to go far to fill the water and they could return only at 5 in the morning, by which time most of the market had been engulfed in the fire.

Committee Chairman comments on the matter

Naharlagun market welfare committee chairman Kipa Nai said, "The police also did not act. Everyone should be sacked for failing to discharge their duty." After interacting with the shopkeepers, Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACC&I) President Tara Nachung demanded suspension of all firefighters for their alleged negligence. Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso told reporters that the market would be reconstructed in collaboration with the state government and ACC&I.
