Arunachal Pradesh Foundation Day: History
The North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA) was established in 1954, and Sino-Indian relations were cordial up until 1960. The Sino-Indian War was mostly a result of the border conflict that erupted again in 1962. A major area of Arunachal Pradesh was subjugated and briefly administered by the Chinese People's Army during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. China, however, declared victory in 1963, withdrew to the McMahon Line, and released Indian POWs. Historical records state that on January 20, 1972, the Director of Research, Bibhabasu Das Shastri, and the Chief Commissioner of Arunachal Pradesh, K.A.A. Raja, dubbed the NEFA Arunachal Pradesh, making it a union territory.
