Cyclone Asani Update Today: Cyclone 'Asani' which emerged from the Bay of Bengal is moving north-westwards close to the Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the severe cyclonic storm 'Asani' will move closer to the Kakinada and Visakhapatnam coasts by Wednesday morning and move along the Andhra Pradesh coast. Thereafter, it is likely to weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm. Cyclone Asani is moving up to 10 kmph, is very likely to move northwestwards by tonight and reach the north Andhra coast and adjoining Odisha coast.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are on alert mode to tackle any damage that can be caused by cyclonic storm Asani. A total of 50 teams of NDRF have been deployed for West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. According to NDRF officials, 22 teams have already been deployed, while 28 teams have been put on alert within the states to deal with the situation as the impending storm has hit the coast of North Andhra Pradesh. Of these, 12 teams have been deployed in coastal districts of West Bengal, nine teams in coastal Andhra Pradesh and one team in the Balasore district of Odisha.
NDRF personnel are conducting awareness campaigns in the coastal areas about Do's and Don'ts during the cyclone and an appeal to the people to shift the people living along the coastline to safer places/shelters. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea for the next 48 hours. Along with this, IMD is making people aware of the latest situation of the storm through messages taking the help of internet media.
At the same time, the Meteorological Department of Bhubaneswar also informed that the severe cyclonic storm Asani will weaken into a cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours. There is a warning of heavy rain in the next 24 hours for Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Puri districts under its influence.
According to the latest forecast of the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of very heavy rains at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Coastal Odisha on Wednesday. Along with this, there is an alert of rain at different places in Coastal West Bengal. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain at some places over the coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal on Thursday, 12 May, and heavy rain at isolated places.
