In the previous two days, floods and landslides have killed over 31 persons in Assam and Meghalaya. According to the most recent reports, over 19 lakh people in 28 Assam districts have been seriously affected, with one lakh taking refuge in relief shelters. In the last two days, 12 people died in Assam and 19 in Meghalaya as a result of the floods. The deaths were reported in the Assam districts of Hojai, Nalbari, Bajali, Dhubri, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, and Sonitpur.
A huge flash flood has been recorded in Agartala, Tripura's capital, after the city received 145 mm of rain in only six hours. Apart from Tripura, officials say Mawsynram and Cherrapunji in Meghalaya have seen record rainfall since 1940.
In Assam, however, 3,000 villages have been flooded, and 43,000 hectares of crops have been submerged. Several embankments, culverts, and roadways have been destroyed as well.
