Atique Ahmed- Ashraf case: Today, the Supreme Court will listen to the case of Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf's murder. Atiq Ahmed used to be a gangster but later became a politician. The Supreme Court will also listen to the argument of the person who filed a request to investigate 183 police encounters that took place in Uttar Pradesh in 2017. The government of Uttar Pradesh, led by CM Yogi, has made all the necessary preparations for this hearing. They will strongly argue their side of the case in front of the Supreme Court. The government has already formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and a judicial panel to investigate this matter. So, it is expected that the government will present the SIT's work as evidence in court.
A lawyer named Vishal Tiwari submitted a petition to the Supreme Court asking to create a committee supervised by a former judge of the court. The petition talks about the killing of Atiq and Ashraf in Police protection and how it endangers democracy, rule of law, and could create a police state. On April 15th in Prayagraj, Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot and killed by three attackers while being taken to Calvin Hospital. The attackers gave up immediately after the incident.
