Bank Holidays 2021:

Considering the ongoing festive season, the private and public sector banks all across the country will remain closed for five days, this week. And if you are planning a visit to your nearest bank, please take note of the list of bank holidays in October 2021 so as to avoid inconvenience.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has instructed holidays for banks under the three brackets of - the Negotiable Instruments Act, Holiday, Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts. And hence, all banks including the private sector, public sector, regional banks, foreign banks, and cooperative banks across the country are directed to remain shut on the listed holidays.

As per the RBI list, all banks across India are scheduled to remain closed on 26th January (Republic Day), 15th August (Independence Day), 2nd October (Gandhi Jayanti), 25th December (Christmas Day), Diwali, Eid, Guru Nanak Birthday, and Good Friday. Other than this, the private and public sector banks are also entitled to an off on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, and every Sunday.

However, for different regions, bank holidays may vary considerably. So, let’s have a look at the full list of bank holidays in October 2021. 

Full List of Bank Holidays October 2021:

  • 19th October: Id-e-Milad/ Eid-e-Miladunnabi/ Milad-i-Sherif (Prophet Mohammad’s Birthday)/ Baravafat/ Banks to remain closed in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bhopal, Chennai, Dehradun, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi, Srinagar, and Thiruvananthapuram

  • 20th October: Valmiki Jayanti/Lakshmi Puja/ Id-e- Milad ( Banks to remain closed in Agartala, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Kolkata, and Shimla)

  • 22nd October: Friday following Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi (Banks to remain closed in Jammu, Srinagar)

  • 23rd October: 4th Saturday, banks to remain closed all across India

  • 24th October: Sunday

  • 26th October: Accession Day (Banks to remain closed in Jammu and Srinagar)

  • 31st October: Sunday
