Bypoll elections are taking place today at three consitutencies of West Bengal- Bhawanipur, Jangipur and Samshergunj. After failing to mark a victory from Nandigram Constituency, West Bengal, in assembly elections earlier this year, CM Mamta Banarjee is now contesting from Bhawanipur district in Bypoll elections taking place today. Central forces have been appointed at all polling booths.
Priyanka Tibrewal vs Mamta Banarjee
After loosing assembly elections, Mamta Banarjee is now contesting from Bhawanipur constituency against BJP’s candidate Priyanka Tibrewal. Priyanka Tibrewal has levied some serious allegations on TMC. She has accused TMC’s MLA Madan Mitra of trying to capture booth by forcefully obstructing the use of EMI machines. She has appealed that voters shall come out to vote and should not fear anyone. She has also appealed for free and fair elections.Security arrangements for elections
72 companies of Central forces have been appointed at election constituencies out of which, 35 have been sent to Bhawanipur alone. Taking the note of adverse weather, every polling centre has been asked to keep pump ready to pull out flood water.
Mamta Banarjee contested from Nandigram in assembly elections, earlier this year but lost it to BJP’s candidate and the now leader of opposition, Suvendu Adhikari. Despite of her defeat, she sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state and to continue to be in office, she is now contesting bypoll elections from Bhawanipur. It will be interesting to see if she’ll mark a victory and continue serving as the state’s CM or will have to leave her office.
