Anand Mohan, a former Bihar MP and Bahubali leader, might now be released from prison. An announcement announcing the release of 27 prisoners, including Anand Mohan, from custody has been made by the state government. This is now possible thanks to a recent legal reform by the Bihar government. Anand Mohan is currently serving a life sentence after being found guilty of killing Gopalganj collector G Krishnaiah. Anand Mohan must return to Saharsa Jail today since he is currently on parole.
Mohan had been given a death sentence by the court in October 2007, but the Patna High Court commuted it to life in prison in December 2008. The High Court heard a case contesting the lower court's ruling. The Nitish Kumar administration changed Bihar's jail regulations on April 10 and eliminated the phrase "murder of a public servant on duty" from the list of circumstances in which a prison sentence reduction cannot be considered. Legal experts think that this modification could result in Mohan's early release. Mohan has been in Saharsa Jail for 15 years to complete his sentence.
