CBI to investigate the West Bengal Post Poll violence case after the directions of Kolkata High Court

West Bengal Post Poll Violence:

CBI will investigate the matter of post-poll violence case after the assembly elections 2021 in Bengal. A five-judge division bench of the Calcutta High Court gave this order while hearing the matter on Thursday. 

Apart from this, the SIT will investigate other cases under the supervision of the court. Along with this, the High Court has also directed the state government to pay compensation to the victims of the Bengal post-poll violence.

A larger bench of Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal, Justice Harish Tandon, Justice Indraprasanna Mukherjee, Justice Soumen Sen, and Justice Subrata Talukdar delivered the verdict on Thursday.

BJP welcomed High Court's decision:

It must be noted that the BJP has welcomed this decision of the High Court on post-poll violence. On the High Court's decision in the violence case, State BJP President Dilip Ghosh said that we hope all the guilty will be punished. 

TMC likely to move to Supreme Court:

On the other hand, the Bengal government can go to the Supreme Court as senior Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy has indicated to move the Supreme Court against the High Court's decision. 

Kolkata Police Commissioner Somen Mitra, Senior IPS Suman Bala Sahu, and IPS Ranveer Kumar have been included by the High Court in the SIT constituted to investigate other cases related to violence. The SIT probe will be supervised by a former Supreme Court judge. This SIT will investigate the robbery, arson, rape, harassment, and other cases during the violence.
