Chennai Floods: Chennai in crisis as torrential rainfall causes floods, Schools-Offices shut down

Around 6 years ago, Chennai had faced massive destruction caused by heavy rainfall. The history is repeating itself as once again torrential rainfall is bringing disaster to the city.Heavy rainfall on Saturday night led to water logging in Chennai due to which water got accumulated in houses located in low regions.

The doors of three reservoirs were opened after the heavy rainfall so that additional water is released. Schools and Colleges in different areas of Tamil Nadu have been closed down. Offices have also asked the employees to work from home only. 4 teams of NDRF have been deployed in Tamil Nadu for relief work.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a word with Tamil Nadu’s CM M.K. Stalin and gave assurance of every kind of support from the central government.

Cyclones due to Monsoon led to heavy rainfall in Chennai and adjoining areas causing accumulation of water in most of the areas on Sunday. The beginning of North-East monsoon in October caused 43% more rainfall in area of Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. Such torrential rainfall is being experienced by the region after around 6 years.Other areas of Tamil Nadu are facing low or medium rainfall.
