CJI UU Lalit Oath Ceremony: What to expect from 49th chief Justice of India in his 74th day tenure

The 49th Chief Justice of the nation, Justice UU Lalit, has taken the oath of office. President Draupadi Murmu gave him the oath of office and secrecy today at Rashtrapati Bhavan. As of yesterday, August 26, Chief Justice NV Ramana retired, and Justice Uday Umesh Lalit has taken his post. On August 26, Justice NV Ramana's tenure as CJI came to an end. Justice Lalit was sworn in as the CJI by President Draupadi Murmu. In Rashtrapati Bhavan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and other dignitaries were present at the time.

As the 49th Chief Justice of the country, he will preside over the Supreme Court for just 74 days. Justice UU Lalit will lead the Supreme Court collegium as Chief Justice of India, along with Justices DY Chandrachud, Hima Kaul, S. Abdul Nazeer, and Indira Banerjee. Justice KM Joseph will join the collegium on September 23, while Justice Banerjee will retire on the same day. Justice UU Lalit will step down as Chief Justice on November 8.


The swearing-in event was attended by Justice Lalit's wife Amita Lalit and their two boys, Harshad and Shreyash. His wife is the Noida school's principal. Despite the fact that all of his children majored in engineering, Shreyash Lalit ultimately chose to pursue a career in law. Shreyash's spouse is Raveena, an attorney.
