Commonwealth Games 2022: Lovlina Borgohain registers big win in Boxing; enters quarter-finals

Commonwealth Games 2022: After a marvelous string of wins by Indian athletes, now the dark horse of boxing Lovlina Borgohain is just a step further from winning a medal for India. Late on Sunday night, boxer Lovlina Borgohain defeated New Zealander Ariane Nicholson 5-0 in the round of 16 of the Commonwealth Games. With this, Lovlina has secured her spot in the Commonwealth Games quarterfinals. She now needs one more victory to give India a medal.


Lovlina Borgohain registers big win in Boxing at CWG 2022

The New Zealander athlete, 39, and Lovlina, 24, were opponents in this bout. Both were battling  in light-middleweight categories.  The New Zealander athlete seemed to be quite exhausted by the end of the match and thus Lovlina  was able to easily win the match by  5-0.


Lovlina Borgohain quarter final match

Lovlina Borgohain, who won bronze at the Olympics in Tokyo, was aggressive right away when competing against a New Zealand opponent who was 15 years her senior. As of right now, Lovlina's quarterfinal opponent will be Welshwoman Rosie Assels. Her medal will be confirmed if she prevails in this contest.

The medal will be guaranteed if she prevails in the quarterfinals. Both boxers who advance to the semi-finals in the sport receive bronze medals.
