As soon as he became the President of All India Congress Committee, Mallikarjun Kharge dissolved the Congress Working Committee and formed the Congress Steering Committee of 47 members, which would be responsible for all the decisions of the party. Earlier, the CWC of 23 members had similar powers.
The Steering Committee includes the names of three leaders associated with Jharkhand, former MP Dr. Ajay Kumar, current state in-charge Avinash Pandey and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh. The names of the leaders included in the steering committee were announced on Wednesday evening.
Kharge has given place to many big faces of the party in the steering committee. Anand Sharma, Randeep Surjewala, Ajay Maken, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Ajay Maken, Ambika Soni, Jairam Ramesh, KC Venugopal, Meira Kumar, Pramod Tiwari, Salman Khurshid, Rajiv Shukla, Harish Rawat have also been included in this list.
Shashi Tharoor, who contested for the party's president, has not been given a place in the new committee. Party general secretary KC Venugopal issued a statement giving this information. He informed that the Congress Working Committee members had resigned from their posts this morning itself before Mallikarjun Kharge took over as the new President.
