Coronavirus Update Today: The number of active cases in the country has increased to 1,34,933 after 18,738 people were found infected with corona in a day. According to the data updated by the Union Health Ministry at 8 am on Sunday, 40 more patients died of the infection. Maharashtra has the highest number of deaths of nine patients. There have been four deaths each in Chhattisgarh and Bengal. In the national capital Delhi, the pace of Corona once again started becoming uncontrollable. In the last 24 hours, 2,423 new cases of corona were reported in Delhi while two people died due to infection.

2,423 new cases of corona in Delhi

According to the report of news agency PTI, 2,423 new cases of corona infection were reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours. With this, the infection rate in Delhi has increased to 14.97 percent. After 22 January this year, Delhi has the highest jump in infection rate. On January 22, the infection rate in Delhi was recorded at 16.4 percent. This is the fifth consecutive day in the national capital that the number of daily cases has crossed 2,000. The positivity rate has remained above 10 percent for seven consecutive days.

Rate of people recovering from corona is 98.50 percent

At the same time, according to the report of the Union Health Ministry, the number of infected patients in the country is 0.31 percent of the total cases of infection. The national rate of recovery from corona is 98.50 percent. The number of active patients has increased by 140 in the last 24 hours. The daily rate of infection has been recorded at 5.02 percent and the weekly rate at 4.63 percent. The mortality rate is 1.19 percent.

Meanwhile, in view of the increasing cases of corona infection in some parts of the country, the central government has asked Delhi and six other states to focus on testing and vaccination. In a letter to Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has advised to be vigilant regarding festivals and mass gatherings. The Union Health Ministry has also emphasized on implementing a five-pronged strategy i.e. testing, identification of contacts, treatment, vaccination and measures to prevent corona. The government has said that there is a need to increase the investigation in the states where cases are increasing.
