Covid-19 vaccine for children to be available from September, says ICMR-NIV director

Coronavirus India Update:

The recent reports state that the Covid-19 vaccines for children are likely to be available in the country from next month i.e., September, as trials on children from 2 to 18 years are underway.

Covid-19 Vaccines under trials:

Dr. Priya Abhraham of the National Institute of Virology has stated that Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials on Covaxin are underway. While various other vaccines in the pipeline are Zydus Cadila’s vaccine, which will be the first DNA vaccine for use. Other than this, the mRNA vaccine by Genova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd., Biological-E vaccine, Serum Institute of India’s (SSI) Novovax, and Bharat Biotech’s one-an intranasal vaccine are being tested in the lab.

The Covaxin is being manufactured by ICMR in collaboration with Bharat Biotech.

While the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated that the Covid-19 vaccine for children aged from 2 to 18 years will be made available soon.

Covid-19 booster dose:

It must be noted that various trials on the booster dose of the Coronavirus vaccine are being conducted in foreign countries, however, no common observations have been obtained yet. 

Dr. Randeep Guleria, the Director of AIIMS Institute, shared that Covid-19 vaccination for children in India will prove to be another protective measure against the expected third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
