Indian male weightlifter Achinta Sheuli won the gold medal by performing best in the men's 73 kg weight category final. This was India's sixth medal in the weightlifting event at the 22nd Commonwealth Games. Earlier, Mirabai Chanu, Sanket, Gururaj, Bindiya and Jeremy Lalrinnunga had won medals for India. Out of this Mirabai and Jeremy had succeeded in winning the gold medal and after that Achinta also won the gold medal. This was India's third gold medal so far in the weightlifting event.

Achinta tried to lift 137 kg in the very first attempt of the snatch round and was successful in it. At the same time, he successfully lifted 140 kg in the second attempt of the snatch round. In the third attempt, he increased the weight by 3 kg and was successful in lifting 143 kg. In the snatch round, Achinta finished first with a new record in games.After finishing first among all the contestants in the snatch round, she confidently lifted 166 kg in her first attempt in the clean and jerk round.

Achinta Shuli had earlier won the gold medal for India in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship in the year 2019, while in the year 2021, she again won the gold medal for the country in the same event.
