Cyclone Mandus Update: Cyclonic storm 'Mandus' caused immense damage and destruction after hitting the coast of Tamil Nadu. Under its influence, heavy rains occurred over Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. At the same time, due to the high-speed winds, trees were uprooted at many places. According to media reports, at least five people have died in incidents caused by the storm in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and thousands have taken shelter in relief camps.

Cyclone Mandus Weakened 

However, now Mandus has started to weaken. Cyclone Mandus has weakened into a low-pressure area over north Tamil Nadu and its neighbouring neighbourhood, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a statement on Sunday. The IMD said that Mandus moved nearly west-southwest during the last six hours. It is now very likely to move nearly west-southwest and weaken further gradually.

Crops over 5000 hectares Destroyed

A total of 4,647.4 hectares of agriculture and 532.68 hectares of horticulture crops have been damaged and 170 houses damaged in various districts of the state due to the rains. To deal with any untoward incident, 140 SDRF personnel and 95 NDRF personnel have been deployed in the four districts.
