Cyclone Mocha: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a cyclone is anticipated to develop over the southeast Bay of Bengal around May 6; as a result, a low air pressure area is anticipated to emerge within the following 48 hours. After the American Global Forecast System (GFS) and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) forecasted the development of a cyclone over the Bay of Bengal, IMD issued its statement.
Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Minister of Odisha, presided over a high-level conference on cyclone readiness on Tuesday (May 2). He urged officials to be ready for everything that might happen. In reference to Cyclone Fani, which created havoc in Odisha on May 2, Patnaik said that it is challenging to predict the likely course of cyclones in the summer. He recommended the authorities prepare for post-cyclone relief operations and move residents in low-lying areas to safer locations if necessary.
