Dera Sacha Sauda: Gurmeet Ram Rahim and four other guilty sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Ranjit Singh

Gurmeet Ram Rahim and other four sentenced to life imprisonment

After being found guilty of Ranjit Singh’s murder, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the head of Dera Sacha Sauda and four others have been sentenced to lifetime imprisonment.Ranjit Singh was the manager in Dera Sacha Sauda and was also the follower of Gurmeet Ram Rahim and was murdered nearly two decades ago, in 2002. He was shot dead because of his suspected role in releasing an anonymous letter describing the sexual harassment faced by women in the Dera, following which the Dera Chief framed a conspiracy to murder him.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim and other four fined

There were six accused, out of which five have been found guilty and the remaining one had died an year ago. The four other convicts are Krishnan Lal, Jasbir Singh, Avtar Singh and Sabdil. Gurmeet Ram Rahim will also pay Rs. 31 Lakh as fine while Abdil will pay Rs. 1.5 Lakh, Krishnan and Jasbir will pay Rs. 1.25 Lakh each and Avtar Singh has been asked to pay Rs. 75,000. Half of the amount will go to the family of Ranjit Singh.

 While others were present in the court, Ram Rahim appeared for the hearing through video-conferencing. He is locked in Sunaria Jail of Rohtak district since 2017 after being found guilty of raping two of his followers. 

The five accused were found guilty by the Special CBI Court of Panchkula earlier this month.

Security has been tightened in Panchkula in the wake of possible violence after the sentence. 

Previous charges against Gurmeet Ram Rahim

Apart from the 20-year imprisonment in the Rape case, Gurmeet Ram Rahim was also sentenced to lifetime imprisonment for the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.
