Earthquake in Indonesia: Earthquake of 5.6 magnitude occurred in Indonesia, 20 people died so far

A 5.6-magnitude earthquake hit the main island of Cianjur on Monday, killing at least 20 people and injuring nearly 300. A local official gave this information. Officials further said that about a dozen buildings collapsed. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake was centered in the Cianjur region of West Java province, with a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 mi).

Earthquake creates stampede

According to the official report of Indonesia's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency BMKG, the epicenter of the earthquake was Cianjur in West Java . According to information received from Indonesia's Meteorological and Geophysics Agency, the depth of this earthquake was about 10 kilometers. Due to this earthquake in Jakarta, tremors were felt in many buildings of the capital. Due to the stampede and damage to the building, so far 56 people have died and around 700 people have been injured, who are undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Frequent earthquakes in Indonesia

Earthquakes happen frequently in Indonesia. Here the earth has been shaking due to the tremors of the strong earthquake. Earlier in February this year, at least 25 people were killed and over 460 were injured in a 6.2 magnitude earthquake in West Sumatra province. In January 2021, a 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck West Sulawesi province, killing more than 100 people and injuring nearly 6,500.
