Afghanistan and Tajikistan felt strong tremors with an intensity of 6.8. According to USGS, an earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale hit Tajikistan at 6:07 am. The effect of the earthquake was also seen in the areas adjacent to the border of China. However, no information about any loss of life or property has been revealed yet.
The epicenter of the earthquake was near the Gorno-Badakhshan area, the eastern region close to Afghanistan and China borders. Surrounded by Pamir Mountains, the territory is less populated.
It is reported that two earthquakes took place in the duration of twenty minutes. The first earthquake measured 6.7, and the second with 5.0. Afghanistan has been hit with earthquakes previously as well. On 13th February, an earthquake of magnitude 4.3 hit Afghanistan.
