Excise Policy Scam: Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has been arrested by the CBI after eight hours of long questioning in the liquor scam case. The CBI says that Manish Sisodia has been arrested for alleged corruption in the implementation of the new excise policy for 2021-22. 

There have been allegations of destruction of evidence, falsification of accounts, corruption, giving and receiving undue favors. The CBI said that the investigating officer was not satisfied with Sisodia’s reply and alleged that Sisodia was not cooperating in the investigation, due to which he was arrested.

Delhi Liquor Policy

The policy was implemented by the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi from November 17, 2021. Under the new policy, 849 liquor vends were awarded to private companies through open bidding, to increase government revenues, better customer experience and end the liquor mafia’s influence and black marketing. The city was divided into 32 zones, each with a maximum of 27 vends. The new policy made the exit of city government from the liquor business.
