Former Goa CM, Luizinho Faleiro joined Trinamool Congress just two days after leaving Indian National Congress. He became a part of TMC in the presence of party’s general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and other senior leaders. After joining he tweeted that he is starting this journey with Mamta Banarjee because Goa needs a credible alternative. Mamta Banarjee also expressed her pleasure to welcome the 7-time MLA and former Chief Minister to her camp.

Who is Luizinho Faleiro?

Luizinho Faleiro, born 26 August 1951, is one of the greatest and popular faces of Goa. He has been elected as Member of Legislative Assembly from Navelim Constituency for seven times and also served as Goa’ Chief Minister from June 1999 to November 1999. He has also served as the general secretary of All India Congress Committee since 2013 and was in-charge of 7 North-Eastern States. He was considered to be a close associate of Rahul Gandhi, but left Congress party on September 29, 2021 and joined the All India Trinamool Congress along with 10 other leaders.

Just few days earlier, TMC’s general secretary, Abhishek Banarjee had revealed the party’s intentions to contest elections in Goa next year, following which the state was covered with the posters of Mamta Banarjee. It will be interesting to see if Faleiro will be able to ensure a win for TMC in next year’s assembly elections or the party will be restricted to West Bengal only.
