Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, graced the stage of 17th Foundation Day of National Disaster Management Authority. During his address, he said that NDMA, NDRF and SDRF have reformed country’s disaster management system in last 17 years. Union minister also said that it is the general public and well trained ‘Aapda Mitra’ who can respond to disasters most quickly and in few seconds, hence, the concept of ‘Aapda MItra’ is very efficient.Aapda Mitra scheme
He also informed that Aapda Mitra have been deployed in 30 flooded districts of 25 states of the country in an experimental way. 5,500 ‘Aapda Mitra’ and ‘Aapda Sakhi’ have been added to it. He also said that ‘Aapda Mitra’ Yojana will now be imposed in 350 districts, vulnerable to disasters. The Indian government is also going to take the responsibility of bearing the insurance of these volunteers, so that they and their families remain assured.
Also,he has proposed the idea of developing a mechanism that can provide the exact location ,where lightening can happen, before 6 min of its occurrence.
