In Punjab, people have started getting 300 units of free electricity from today. On this occasion, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said that his government is fulfilling the 'guarantees' given to the people of the state. From Friday, every house has started getting 300 units of free electricity every month. The AAP government had earlier announced 300 units of free electricity to every household from July 1.
CM Mann said “Previous governments used to make promises during elections.Five years would have passed by the time the promises were fulfilled, but our government has set a new example in the history of Punjab.Today we are going to fulfil another guarantee given to Punjabis.From today every family of Punjab will get 300 units of free electricity every month.”
One of the major promises made by the Aam Aadmi Party during the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections was to provide 300 units of free electricity to every household every month.

AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha said that Punjab has become the second state after Delhi to provide free electricity to the people.He said, “Today is a historic day as Punjab has become the second state after Delhi to get free lifeline electricity.For Punjabis 'Kejriwal Di Pehli Guarantee' has become a reality.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, while presenting the AAP-government's first budget on June 27, had said that providing 300 units of free electricity would put an additional burden of Rs 1,800 crore on the exchequer. Cheema had said, “The AAP government is fulfilling its first guarantee given to the people of Punjab by providing 300 units of domestic electricity supply per month free of cost to all citizens of Punjab from July 1.This will give a big relief to Punjabis, who are facing the problem of excessive electricity bills.”
