President Droupadi Murmu presented medals of valour to members of the Army, Paramilitary Forces, and Police Forces for their remarkable bravery and valour while performing their duties. 37 gallantry awards were given out on Tuesday at Rashtrapati Bhavan's Defence Investiture Ceremony. Eight jawans, including five, received the Kirti Chakra posthumously.
While 5 Shaurya Chakras were given posthumously to 29 recipients. The Kirti Chakra is the nation's second-highest gallantry medal bestowed during a time of peace. The Shaurya Chakra is a distinction for valour in times of peace as well. It refers to the period of time during which there is not a direct conflict with the opponent. In the group of medals awarded during peacetime, the Shaurya Chakra comes in third.
