On Wednesday, CDS Gen Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter crash, carrying 13 members, including his wife, Madhulika Rawat. 13 people have already lost their lives, only one officer, Gp Capt Varun Singh has survived but he too is in a critical condition. The helicopter crashed in the Coonoor hill station of Tamil Nadu. CDS Gen Bipin Rawat was taken to the hospital for treatment but due to severe injuries, he was declared dead on the arrival.
The whole nation is in a state of shock and grief after this news broke out. Condolences are being poured from across the nations and people are showing their support for the bereaved families.
In 2015, Bipin Rawat was Lt Gen in the Indian Army. On 3 Feb 2015, Gen Bipin Rawat along with 3 other soldiers were on board in a Cheetah helicopter, in the Dimapur District of Nagaland. His helicopter crashed moments after taking off from the helipad and the helicopter crashed but all survived with minor injuries.
On 8 December, CDS Gen Bipin Rawat and the others were on board an Indian Air Force Mi-17V5 helicopter, which took off from the Sulur Indian Air Force base near Coimbatore(Tamil Nadu). General Rawat was on his way to Defence Staff College in Wellington to attend an event.
The black box has been retrieved from the crashed helicopter. Now investigations are going on to see what exactly happened on that day and to determine the reason for the accident.
