The Holi celebration in Pakistan's Punjab University caused a commotion when it was claimed that Hindu students there participated in the festival. The radical Islamic student group Islamic Jamiat Tulba (IJT) and Hindu students there reportedly got into a fight. The Hindu students were beaten up by members of the student organisation at first, and then by college security personnel.

In the altercation, 15 kids who had come to celebrate Holi were hurt. IJT members, however, deny there was ever such an occurrence. The college management also claims that they forbade the students from celebrating Holi on the campus lawn.

Punjab University denies allegations

When contacted by PTI, Ibrahim Shahid, a spokesman at IJT (Punjab University), denied that any of its students were involved in the event. According to Panjab University spokesman Khurram Shahzad, Holi celebrations at the law college garden were not permitted by the university administration. There wouldn't have been a problem, he claimed, if the ceremony had taken place inside the chamber. According to Shahzad, the Vice-Chancellor has mandated an investigation into the situation.
