IMD issues warning as the Air Quality in Delhi can get worse after Diwali

The air quality in Delhi NCR is deteriorating significantly since last three days. The most polluted city of NCR in last 24 hours was Bawana where the Air Quality Index was as high as 345. Narela was registered as the second most polluted area. According to an estimate by Safar, the Air quality in delhi can be very serious until Diwali Night. The air in national capital is poisonous because of the air pollution.

The pollution in Delhi is mainly caused by the burning of straw in Punjab and Haryana as the smoke from these two states enter the national capital. Last year, till November 5, the contribution of straw burning in Air pollution in Delhi was as high as 42%. In 2019, on November 1, the straw burning caused 44% of the total pollution in the National Capital.

Ban on firecrackers

Delhi government has imposed complete ban on firecrackers and hence no crackers will be burnt on Diwali. While announcing the same the government had said that the ban was for the welfare of people. After this, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee on September 28,2021, ordered complete ban on the sale and burning of firecrackers till January 1, 2022. Delhi faces the problem of extreme pollution in winters and it is enhanced by the burning of firecrackers. Also, the air pollution caused by firecrackers lead to various hazardous health problems.
