About  Gurudongmar Lake

In Sikkim, at a height of 5,425 m (17,800 ft), named after Guru Padmasambhava, Gurudongmar Lake is among the highest lakes in both the world and India. Sikhs, Buddhists, and Hindus all regard it as sacred.

How to reach?

This lake is within a few kilometres from the Chinese-Tibetan border. It has stunning settings and is heavenly for spending quality time. The lake is accessible by road from Lachen through Thangu. The road from Thangu to Gurudongmar travels over rocky, morainal terrain.

Best time to visit

Gurudongmar Lake is best explored in the winter, which lasts from November to February. 5°C to -27°C of temperature variation can be seen at Gurudongmar Lake. At this point, the lake is completely frozen. Also the months of April-May are an ideal time to visit.
