Indonesia Earthquake: Devastation due to earthquake in Cianjur, 268 killed so far

The massive earthquake that hit Indonesia’s capital Jakarta has left everyone speechless. The death toll has increased to 268. The number has increased because the bodies that were buried in the debris were recovered. According to the reports 151 people are still being missing. The intensity of this earthquake was measured at 5.6 on the Richter scale. Officials say that 1,083 people were injured in the earthquake. Our full attention is on the search and rescue operation. This is our priority.

National Search and rescue agency gives statement

National search and rescue agency’s head Henry Alfiandi says that the earthquake triggered landslide which lead several houses and buildings to collapse in the village. Many people are stuck under the debris of these buildings. He said, 'We are carrying forward the operation at many such points where it is suspected that there may still be casualties. Our team is also trying to reach far-flung areas. He said, 'For us, all the victims are a priority, our goal is to find them and get them out as soon as possible to save their lives and provide medical assistance.'

PM Modi expresses concern

PM Modi has also expressed his concern regarding the earthquake in Indonesia. He tweeted “Saddened by the loss of life and property due to the earthquake in Indonesia. Deepest condolences to the victims and their families. I wish speedy recovery of the injured. India stands with Indonesia in this hour of grief.”

It is being told that about 13 thousand people have become homeless after this disaster. However, the official figures of the devastation caused by the earthquake are yet to come.
