INS Mormugao was commissioned into the Navy at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai in the presence of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Explain that the design of INS Mormugao has been prepared by the indigenous organization of the Indian Navy. It is built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited Mumbai.
Handing over 'INS Mormugao' to the Navy, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said, "The place where we all have gathered today for the commissioning of INS Mormugao, this historic region has been witness to the valor of heroes like Chhatrapati Shivaji, Sambhaji and Kanhoji. The commissioning of this warship at Karmsthali has its own special significance.
The Defense Minister said, "I am very happy to be present among all of you at the commissioning ceremony of 'INS Mormugao' organized by the Indian Navy. INS Mormugao, included in the Navy, will hold an important position because of its merits." He said, “The INS Visakhapatnam-class missile destroyer is one of the most powerful warships to be built in India. I am confident that this warship will significantly enhance the security of maritime borders with its capabilities.
The indigenously built INS Mormugao is one of the most powerful warships of the Navy. Its length is 163 meters and its width is 17 meters. The weight of this powerful warship is about 7400 tonnes. It can also operate at a higher speed of 30 knots. INS Mormugao is armed with missiles like BrahMos and Barak-8.
It is equipped with Israel's MF-STAR radar, which can detect long-range targets in the air. INS Mormugao, armed with a 127 mm gun, is also capable of engaging targets from a distance of 300 km. It is fitted with an AK-630 anti-missile gun system. In addition, it is also equipped with an anti-submarine rocket launcher.
