Jammu and Kashmir Terrorist Attacks: A principal and teacher shot dead by Terrorists; 7th targeted attack in last 5 days

The terrorists killed a principal and teacher in a government school on Wednesday, the recent of the large number of targeted killings happening in the valley recently. According to a government official, terrorists stormed into the Government Boys Higher Senior Secondary School in Eidgah area of Srinagar and shot the principal and a teacher from close range. Students weren’t present ins schools due to the virtual nature of classes.

Target Killings in Kashmir Vally

News agency Reuters quoted a school teacher as saying,"The pistol-wielding men came into the school this morning and asked for the identity cards of the teachers and later fired at two teachers, one each from the minority Sikh and Hindu community." 

The Victims of Target Killings

The dead have been identified as school’s principal Surinder Kaur who resided in Srinagar only and teacher Deepak Chand, a resident of Jammu.This is the 7th news of targeted killing in the valley in last 5 days. Out of the 7 news, 6 incidents have taken place at Srinagar only.  According to the police chief of Jammu and Kashmir, terrorist organisation, ‘The Resistance Front’ was behind yesterday’s attack.

The area has been sealed by the armed forces but the incident has caused both terror and anger at the same time among the general public. It is clear that terrorists want to spread fear among the general public by carrying out such killings.

Lt. Governor on Targeted Attacks

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the killing of civilians and said that the terrorists behind the attack will not be able to succeed in disturbing the peace of the Union Territory. He Tweeted, "I strongly condemn the barbaric killing of two of our teachers, Supinder Kour and Deepak Chand by terrorists. A befitting reply will be given to the perpetrators of the heinous terror attacks on innocent people." 

Omar Abdullah on Targeted Attacks

The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah also criticsed the killings in a series of tweets. He tweeted "Shocking news coming in again from Srinagar. Another set of targeted killings, this time of two teachers in a government school in Idgah area of the city. Words of condemnation are not enough for this inhuman act of terror but I pray for the souls of the deceased to rest in peace.”


Previous Target Attacks

Earlier, On Tuesday, 70 years old Makhan Lal Bindroo, a businessman and owner of pharmacy in Srinagar’s Iqbal Park was fired from point-blank range in his store at around 7pm. He was rushed to the hospital but declared dead on arrival

The two other civilians who were killed on Tuesday included a street food vendor in Downtown Srinagar and a civilian of Bandipora. The civilian has been identified as Mohammad Shafi, the president of taxi-stand in the area. The vendor was identified as Virender Paswan, a resident of Bhagalpur, Bihar.
