Joshimath Snowfall: Snowfall started in Joshimath, will the problems of people struggling with landslides increase?

As Joshimath battled a landslide, snow fell on Friday. After a snowfall, people's problems could get worse. Earlier, Joshimath and the Chamoli area were expected to have both snowfall and rain. According to the government, Pithoragarh and Uttarkashi may also see rain and snowfall.

Meteorological department issues rain alert

On Thursday, the Uttarakhand Meteorological Department issued a warning for significant precipitation and snowfall in the state's high-elevation regions from January 24 to 27. An orange alert regarding this has been issued by the State Meteorological Department. The likelihood of significant precipitation and snowfall could make the landslide situation in Joshimath, which is already problematic, worse. Rainfall and snowfall can make landslides more risky. On the other hand, further challenges may occur in the continuing relief and reconstruction efforts as a result of rain and snowfall.

258 families displaced

In Joshimath, 258 families have so far experienced a temporary eviction. These families consist of about 900 members in total. Let us say that there have been reports of cracks in 849 homes so far. According to media estimates, Gandhinagar has 154 houses with cracks while Ravigram ward has a maximum of 161 houses. These persons have been relocated to a secure location.
