Norovirus Infection:

The Indian state of Kerala has recently reported 13 cases of Norovirus infection, in the Wayanad district. While the Kerala government has already warned people to be vigilant about the contagious virus. What is Norovirus?

A very contagious virus, Norovirus causes vomiting and diarrhea. And Norovirus can infect and make sick, people of all ages. Norovirus is sometimes also termed as “Stomach Flu” or “Stomach Bug.” Norovirus can spread quite easily, and here are a few means through which Norovirus can infect you:

  • Having direct contact with the person infected by Norovirus.

  • By consuming contaminated water and food.

  • By touching contaminated surfaces, and then consuming the germs on those hands.

Symptoms of Norovirus:

The most common symptoms of Norovirus include:

  • Vomiting

  • Nausea

  • Diarrhea

  • Stomach Pain

Some other symptoms of Norovirus include Fever, Body Aches, and Headaches.

Treatment of Norovirus:

A person infected with Norovirus illness is advised to drink plenty of liquids to replace the fluids lost from the body due to diarrhea and vomiting, so as to prevent dehydration. While sports drinks and other drinks that do not contain caffeine or alcohol can help improve mild dehydration.
