A portion of the foot overbridge at Ballarshah railway station in Maharashtra's Chandrapur collapsed on the railway track on Sunday. In the accident, many passengers fell on the railway track 60 feet below the bridge. 13 people were injured. A 48-year-old woman, Nilima Rangari, died late in the night. She was admitted in ICU. The condition of another woman also remains critical. He is also in ICU.
Earlier, there was chaos at the station after the accident which happened at around 5.10 pm. Passengers present at the station picked up the injured from the track. The great thing is that there was no train on the track during the accident. Railway officials stopped the trains coming to the platform as soon as the incident was reported. The injured were immediately shifted to Civil Hospital.
Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railway Shivaji Sutar said that the Railways has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to seriously injured passengers and Rs 50,000 to those with minor injuries. The injured are being treated at the Civil Hospital.
