Voting for the by-elections in UP's Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat as well as Rampur and Khatauli assembly seats has started from 7 am today. Due to the temperature being between 10 and 12 degrees, there is silence at the polling stations. Shivpal Singh Yadav said that till now our workers were attacked under administrative pressure. I warned them last night not to get caught by the police, to reach the booths at 7 am, and facilitate polling.
This election is being seen as the semi-final of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. On one hand the result of Mainpuri seat will decide the political stature of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav in the country's politics, while on the other hand Rampur seat will decide the political future of Azam Khan's family. On the other hand, the BJP wants to maintain its supremacy on the Khatauli seat of Muzaffarnagar.
Mulayam Singh Yadav's elder daughter-in-law and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple Yadav is contesting in the Mainpuri Lok Sabha by-election. On the other hand, BJP has given ticket to Raghuraj Singh Shakya from this seat. Azam Khan's close aide Asim Raja was made SP's candidate for Rampur Sadar seat while BJP has given ticket to Akash Saxena, son of former MLA Shiv Bahadur Saxena. Mainpuri Lok Sabha and Rampur Sadar assembly constituencies have been considered strongholds of the Samajwadi Party for many years.
