NITI Aayog Meeting: PM Modi will preside over the meeting of NITI Aayog, distance of Nitish, boycott of KCR

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the seventh meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog today. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will not attend this meeting of NITI Aayog. He has distanced himself from the meeting. Also, Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) has boycotted this meeting.

Topics to be discussed in the meeting

The agenda of this meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog is to achieve self-reliance in the matter of diversification of crops, oilseeds, pulses and agro-communities. Apart from this, the National Education Policy – Implementation of School Education, National Education Policy – Implementation of Higher Education and Urban Administration are included. 

As part of the preparations for this meeting, a national conference of chief secretaries of different states was organized in Dharamsala in June 2022, which was the result of six months of hard work by the Center and the states.

Importance of NITI Aayog

This Governing Council provides a forum to discuss inter-regional, inter-departmental and federal issues. These include the Prime Minister of India; Chief Ministers of all states and union territories with legislatures; Lieutenant Governors of other Union Territories; ex-officio member; Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog; Whole time member of NITI Aayog; And as a special invitee member, Union Ministers are involved. 

It provides the most important forum for deliberations between the Center and the States and identifies key strategies for concerted action with a view to the entire government. This meeting assumes particular importance in the light of our entering the nectar period in the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic and India hosting the G20 presidency and summit next year.
