Number of Demat accounts rises 34% to 10.8 cr in Dec on attractive returns- Watch Video

Demat accounts surged to 10.8 crore in December 2022, a rise of 34% on an annual basis, due to the equity markets' appealing returns, the convenience of opening new accounts, and greater savings. Additionally, the incremental account additions for these accounts increased in December when compared to the previous three months, though they fell short of the average run-rate of 29 lahks for the fiscal year 2021–22 (FY22).

According to an analysis by Motilal Oswal Financial Services, the incremental additions of such accounts were 21 lakh in December 2022 as opposed to 18 lakh each in October and November and 20 lakh in September.
