Pakistan PM Imran Khan's life in danger, security increased

The life of Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan is in danger. Pakistan's Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Friday that intelligence agencies have reported a conspiracy to assassinate Prime Minister Imran Khan. The minister tweeted that Khan’s security was increased in accordance with the government’s decision following the intelligence reports.

A similar claim was made in a live TV show earlier this week by Faisal Vawda, a politician of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. Vawda said the plot was linked to a “secretive” memo that the government had received. “There isn’t just one letter, there are several letters,” he said.

He, however, did not reveal if the purported conspiracy to assassinate the premier was mentioned in the letter. Vawda also said that Khan was told multiple times that bulletproof glass needed to be installed before his dais at the March 27 rally but he refused.

The no-trust vote has become increasingly difficult for Khan since he lost his majority in parliament when his largest ally quit the ruling coalition this week.
Earlier on Thursday, opposition parties called on Khan to resign ahead of the parliamentary vote but he announced in an address to the nation that he would not step down and would face the no-trust vote on Sunday to “decide Pakistan’s future.”
