Police personnel going to protect a polio team have been attacked in Pakistan's Balochistan province. In this attack, the truck of police personnel was targeted. According to the information, at least three people were killed in the suicide attack, while 24 others were injured. The dead include a policeman, a child and a woman. Newspaper 'Dawn' gave this information quoting Quetta's Deputy Inspector General Ghulam Azfar Mahesar. Pakistan's Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) organization has claimed responsibility for the attack.
A senior police officer gave this information. He said that 20 security personnel were also among the injured. According to the official, the suicide attack took place when a truck carrying police personnel deployed for the security of workers involved in polio vaccination drive was passing through Quetta's Balleli area. The Pakistani newspaper quoted Quetta's Deputy Inspector General of Police Ghulam Azfar Mahesar as saying, "The attack took place near a police truck, due to which the vehicle of police personnel who were going to provide security to the staff deployed on polio duty, overturned and fell into a ditch."
Pakistan's PM Shahbaz Sharif has condemned this suicide attack. According to Geo News, he has ordered an immediate inquiry into it. President Arif Alvi also condemned the attack. He prayed for the peace of the dead and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. Earlier, Pak security forces had killed 10 suspected terrorists during an encounter in Balochistan on Tuesday. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the terrorists were killed in an operation launched by security forces to clear a terrorist hideout based on intelligence inputs in Hoshab area of Balochistan province.
