You are in trouble if your PAN card is not linked to your aadhar card. The Income Tax Department on Saturday issued an advisory that those PANs which are not linked with Aadhaar by the end of March next year will be deactivated.
The Income Tax Department said in a public consultation, “Linking of PAN with Aadhaar is mandatory, it is necessary. Don't delay, link it today!” As per the Income Tax Act, 1961, it is mandatory for all PAN holders, who do not fall in the exempted category, to link their PAN with their Aadhaar before March 31, 2023.
Earlier, the last date for linking a PAN card with Aadhaar was 31 July 2022 by the Income Tax Department. But now the government has extended the last date for linking these two to March 31, 2023, with a penalty of Rs 1000. Some people have been given an exemption to link their PAN with their Aadhaar. In these people, people of Assam, Jammu, Kashmir and Meghalaya, NRIs, foreign nationals, and those above 80 years of age are exempted.
