Petrol Diesel Price: The imapct of dollar index and US inflation data is being seen on crude oil these days. The price of crude oil continues to fluctuate continuously. In view of this, government oil companies in India are also revising fuel prices daily.
As per the latest price update, fuel prices including petrol and diesel in India are stable today. In 2017, the government has started updating the prices of petrol and diesel daily. Since then oil marketing companies have been revising rates every morning. State-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) such as Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum revise fuel prices every day at 6 am.
Petrol is being sold at Rs 96.72 and diesel at Rs 89.62 per liter in Delhi. Petrol in Mumbai costs Rs 106.31 per liter and diesel costs Rs 94.27 per litre. One liter of petrol in Chennai costs Rs 102.63 and diesel costs Rs 94.24 per litre. Petrol is being sold at Rs 106.03 per liter and diesel at Rs 92.76 per liter in Kolkata.
OMCs have not given any relief in the rates of petrol and diesel despite the sharp fall in the price of crude oil in the past. The last revision in fuel rate was done on May 22, 2022, when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a cut in excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per liter and on diesel by Rs 6 per liter, respectively. Addressing a discussion held on Budget 2023 a few days ago, the Finance Minister had said that petrol and diesel can be brought under GST, if all the states agree.
