PM Modi in Kedarnath: PM offers prayers in Kedarnath, inaugurates Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi

On Friday November 5, Prime Minster Narendra Modi visited Kedarnath Dham to offer his prayers to Baba Kedarnath. This was the fifth visit of PM Narendra Modi to Kedarnath after assuming the office of Prime Minister. PM has always had special affection and attachment towards one of the four Dhams in the state of Uttarakhand. 

PM unveils the statue of Adi Shankaracharya 

Prime Minister also inaugurated the samadhi of Adi Shankaracharya at Kedarnath and unveiled his statue which was rebuilt as it was earlier destroyed due to the floods in kedarnath in 2013.

Prime minister also inaugurated the redevelopment projects worth Rs. 130 crore in Kedarnath, which include Saraswati Retaining Wall Aasthapath and Ghats, Mandakini Retaining Wall Aasthapath, Tirth Purohit Houses and Garud Chatti bridge on river Mandakini.

Prime Minister said, “A number of infrastructure works are planned for Uttarakhand incl road connectivity to Char Dhams & ropeway near Hemkund Sahib to facilitate devotees. This decade belongs to Uttarakhand. In next 10 years, the state will receive more tourists than it did in the last 100 years.”

PM also said,“There was a time when spirituality and religion were believed to be associated only with stereotypes. But, Indian philosophy talks about human welfare, sees life in a holistic manner. Adi Shankaracharya worked to make the society aware about this truth.

PM Modi's previous visits to Kedarnath

After assuming Prime Minister’s office, Narendra Modi first went to Kedarnath on May 3,2017. In the same year, Prime Minister visited Kedarnath again on October 20 when he also laid the foundation stone of 5 major projects for the rebuilding of Kedarpur. The first phase of these projects are complete and the second phase of these projects has begun.

On November 7, 2018 Prime Minister Modi visited Kedarnath Dham for the third time as the Prime Minister of India and he also physically reviewed the rebuilding work. For the fourth time, PM Modi went to Kedarnath Dham on May 14, 2019 when he also spent 17 hours in the ‘Dhyan Gufa’.

This is the fifth time PM modi will be visiting Kedarnath Temple. Officials have already started taking a note of the preparations for PM Modi’s visit to the Dham.
