PM Narendra Modi spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone on Thursday. During this, he reiterated India's position on the situation in Ukraine and supported dialogue and diplomacy. Even before the Russia-Ukraine war, PM Modi has called Putin. PM Modi also spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The PM appealed to both the countries to find a solution to the problem through dialogue.
Apart from the Ukraine crisis, the two countries discussed other global issues including bilateral trade. Along with this, the implementation of the decisions taken during Putin's visit to India was also reviewed during today's discussion.
PM Modi discussed many global issues including food security with Russia during today's conversation. According to the Prime Minister's Office, there was a discussion between PM Modi and Putin regarding agricultural commodities, pharma products and fertilisers. The two countries exchanged views on the current situation in the international energy and food markets.
The PMO said that in the context of the current situation in Ukraine, the Prime Minister reiterated India's old stand in support of dialogue and diplomacy. It said the two leaders also agreed to continue regular consultations on global and bilateral issues. Days before talks with Putin, Modi had mentioned in an apparent reference to the Ukraine crisis that the G-7 and its summit invitees in Germany are meeting amid an atmosphere of global tension and asserted that India would always In favor of peace.
